Fabian Kuratli studied at the Musikhochschule Luzern, from which he graduated in 1994. He is part of the first generation of musicians who grew up with Techno music and his playing style is therefore much influenced by Techno, House, Dub and Breakbeat music.
However, his true love belongs to the great bands of the sixties - the bands of jazz giants John Coltrane and Miles Davis. By mixing those influences into a highly personal style, he has been named “Elvin Jones of the Backbeat" by the press.
Thanks to his unique playing style, and his ability to blend into all kinds of musical environments, it was not long before he was regularly being called for recording sessions and concerts leading to tours of Europe, USA, Canada, Asia, and Africa.
He has performed with with Christy Doran’s "New Bag", Don Li “Out of Body Experience”, Electric Blanket, Trio “Mir” with Hans Koch and Michael Stauffer, Pierre Favres “Drummers”, Antonello Messina Trio, the “Swiss Jazz Orchestra”, Heiri Känzig's "Acoustic Strings", and ultimately with Kaspar Ewalds Exorbitantes Kabinett.

Fabian Kuratli gehört der ersten Generation von Musikern an, welche mit Technomusik aufgewachsen ist. Sein Spiel wird so auch unüberhörbar von Stilen aus der Techno-, House-Dub- und Breakbeat-Welt beeinflusst. Seine heimliche Liebe gilt jedoch dem Jazz der 60-er Jahre mit den großartigen Bands von John Coltrane und Miles Davis. So verwundert es nicht, dass er in Zeitungen auch schon als "Elvin Jones des Backbeat" bezeichnet wurde. Dank seines unverkennbaren Stiles wurde er zu einem der vielbeschäftigsten Schlagzeugern der Schweiz. Als Bandleader und Komponist von Fab4 hat er vor drei Jahren die Schweizer Jazzszene aufhorchen lassen. Er hat mit dieser von Presse und Publikum gefeierten Gruppe auf mehreren Tourneen in der Schweiz und Deutschland sowie mit einer CD einiges Aufsehen erregt. Als Sideman hat er u.a. mit Christy Doran, Shirley Grimes, Hans Koch, Gian-Carlo Nicolai, George Gruntz, Harald Haerter, Robert Dick, Dom Um Romao, Asita Hamidi u.v.m. gespielt.
