Drummer and composer Elmar Frey is presenting his sextett‘s first stocktaking, where he tailors his original compositions and arrangements for a ‘3 horn frontline‘. The repertoire‘s central part is built by rhythmically intense, hard-swinging tunes with bluesy touch, taking up the soul jazz epoch of the beginning sixties. Besides that, you will find post bop oriented modern jazz, pieces with latin character and even the adaption of an Irish folk song. Frey‘s pen stroke gives this multi-colored variety a common denominator. His arrangements provide an interplay between ensemble passages and freedom which is explored to its depths by these great soloists. ****************************************************************************************** Der Schlagzeuger und Komponist Elmar Frey legt hier eine erste Bestandesaufnahme seines Sextetts vor, in welchem er einer 3-Horn-Frontline seine Kompositionen und Arrangements auf den Leib schneidert. Das Kernstück des Repertoires bilden rhythmisch intensive, stark groovende Stücke mit bluesigem Touch, mit denen Frey an die Soul-Jazz-Epoche der Anfangssechziger Jahre anknüpft. Daneben begegnen sich postboppig Modernes, Stücke lateinamerikanischer Prägung und sogar die Bearbeitung eines irischen Volkslieds. Freys Federstrich gibt diesem kunterbunten Allerlei einen gemeinsamen Nenner. Seine Arrangements bilden ein Wechselspiel zwischen Ensemblepassagen und Freiräumen, welche von den starken Solisten, die hier auftreten, gekonnt ausgelotet werden. ******************************************************************************************** Il batterista e compositore Elmar Frey ci presenta un nuovo inventario del suo sestetto, nel quale ritaglia su misura le sue composizioni e arrangiamenti su di una linea frontale composta da 3 corni. Il fulcro del repertorio è costituito da brani impregnati da intenso ritmo e da una profonda verve di blues, con i quali Frey vuole riferirsi all'epoca del soul-jazz, inizio anni sessanta. Oltre a ciò figurano anche brani moderni decisamente postbopping, brani con accento sudamericano e addirittura l'elaborazione di un brano popolare irlandese. Frey riesce a dare a questo colorato ventaglio di brani una valenza stilistica unica e caratteristica. I suoi arrangiamenti costituiscono un gioco d'insieme fra i passaggi del sestetto e gli spazi solistici, aiutati in questo dai valenti musicisti che formano il gruppo e che sanno darne il giusto risalto comunicativo.
