The Diagonal tentet, which was formed during a period spent at the Théâtre dAuxerre (F), offers a well-balanced cast of musicians and instruments, who propose a refined mix of jazz, contemporary and folk music. Jean-Christophe Cholet, who lives in the "Région Centre" of France, who was born in Germany, who was "adopted" by the Burgundy region, who since 1997 has had very close ties to his projects that involve Swiss musicians, and who is present on the jazz scenes in Austria, Italy and Germany, has always had a strong passion for the European musical heritage, which he believes is an infinte source of inspiration. His first two programmes were dedicated to the alpine regions ("Suite Alpestre", co-composed with Matthias Rüegg, 1997, Choc Jazzman) and to the anglo-saxon music ("English Sounds & Irish Suite", 2000). The latter was unfortunately never recorded nor published. The third phase of this vast project explores Eastern Europe. "Slavonic Tone", a rejuvenating confrontation (and sometimes even a union) between the powerful tones of slavonic folk music and the codes of a lyrical expression, which become the pretext for rearranging, arranging, deranging... Jean-Christophe Cholet signs off six new compositions and two arrangements based on famous melodies of the "Voix Bulgares". It is also the opportunity to listen to the compositions of Arnaud Boukhitine, the tuba player of the orchestra, who proposes us a complementary composition that subtly melts with the rest of the project. This production is distinguished by a joyful character and moves in a different direction to that of the other works that Jean-Christophe Cholet has proposed on Altrisuoni. This is certainly a step in the artists career which is worth listening to. **************************************** Créé en 2000 lors dune résidence au théâtre dAuxerre (F), Diagonal est un tentet au casting judicieux et à linstrumentation raffinée qui balance entre jazz, musique contemporaine et folklores. Installé en Région Centre, né en Allemagne, Bourguignon dadoption, très attaché à ses projets avec les musiciens Suisses depuis 1997 présent sur les scènes jazz autrichienne, italienne et allemande, Jean-Christophe Cholet nourrit depuis longtemps une passion pour le patrimoine musical européen, source dinspiration inépuisable. Ses deux premiers programmes étaient respectivement consacrés aux pays transalpins "Suite Alpestre" co-composée avec Matthias Rüegg en 1997 (Choc Jazzman) et aux musiques anglo-saxonnes "English sounds & Irish Suite" en 2000 qui na malheureusement pas fait lobjet dun enregistrement. Le troisième volet de ce vaste projet explore lEurope de lest. Slavonic Tone, réjouissante confrontation (et parfois un mariage) des puissantes cadences des folklores slaves aux codes dune expression lyrique, devient prétexte à découper, arranger, déranger ... Jean-Christophe Cholet signe six nouvelles compositions et deux arrangements sur des mélodies des célèbres Voix Bulgares. Cest également loccasion découter le travail décriture dArnaud Boukhitine, tubiste de lorchestre, qui vient nous présenter une compositions complémentaire, venant se fondre subtilement dans lensemble du projet. Ce volet revêt un caractère plus festif en séloignant gentiment des diverses productions que nous a donné a écouter Jean-Christophe Cholet sur le label Altrisuoni. Une étape du compositeur a ne pas manquer interprétée par des musiciens français dexception ! *********************************************************** Im Jahre 2000, während eines Treffen im Theater von Auxerre (F) gegründet, ist Diagonal eine sehr gut ausgewogene Musikformation von 10 Elementen, dazu einer raffinierten Strumentierung, die sich zwischen jazz, gegenwärtige Musik und Volksmusik bewegt. Im Zentrum von Frankreich ansässig, in Deutschland geboren, Adoptivkind des Burgund, tief mit seinen Projekten mit Schweizern Musikern und zwar seit 1997 verbunden, über die Jazzbühnen von Österreich, Italien und Deutschland anwesend, hat Jean-Christophe Cholet seit immer eine langjährige gewaltige Vorliebe für das europäische musikalische Kulturgut, unüberwindbare Inspirationsquelle. Seine zwei erste Projekte waren beziehungsweise den transalpinen Gebieten, wie „Suite Alpestre“, zusammen mit Matthias Rüegg im Jahre 1997 (Choc Jazzman) komponiert, und der angelsächsischen Musik, wie „English sounds & Irische Suite“ im Jahre 2000, leider nicht aufgenommen, gewidmet. Die dritte Phase von diesem gewaltigen Projekt erforscht Westeuropa. Slavonic Tone, stimmungsvolle Gegenüberstellung (manchmal Heirat) von starken Kadenzen der slawischen Volksmusik gemässigt mit lyrischem Pathos, Gelegenheit um auszuschneiden, arrangieren, auseinander nehmen … Jean-Christophe Cholet unterzeichnet hier seine neue sechs Kompositionen und zwei Arrangements über berühmte Melodien der Bulgarischen Volksmusik. Gleichzeitig haben wir die Möglichkeit die feine Ziselierarbeit von Arnaud Boukhitine anzuhören, Tuba Spieler, der uns eine komplementäre Komposition die sich feinfühlig in das Ganze des Projektes hineinschleicht vorführt. Diese Produktion bekleidet einen feierlicheren Charakter und schert sich von den verschiedenen bis heutzutage durch das Label Altrisuoni aufgeführten Jean-Christophe Cholet’s Produktionen aus. Diese Etappe des Komponisten, begleitet von aussergewöhnlichen französischen Musikern, soll unbedingt nicht versäumt werden! *********************************************************** Creato nel 2000, in occasione di una riunione al teatro d’Auxerre (F), Diagonal è una formazione a dieci molto ben calibrata e dalla strumentazione raffinata che spazia dal jazz alla musica contemporanea e a quella folcloristica. Domiciliato nel centro della Francia, nato in Germania, adottivo della Borgogna, molto legato ai suoi progetti con musicisti svizzeri dal 1997, presente sulle scene jazzistiche austriache, italiane e tedesche, Jean-Christophe Cholet nutre da lunga data una grande passione per il patrimonio musicale europeo, sorgente d’ispirazione inestinguibile. I suoi primi due programmi erano rispettivamente consacrati ai paesi transalpini, “Suite Alpestre” composta insieme a Matthias Rüegg nel 1997 (Choc Jazzman), e alle musiche anglosassoni, “English sounds & Irish Suite” nel 2000 che purtroppo non è stato registrato. La terza parte di questo grande progetto esplora l’Europa dell’Est. Slavonic Tone, confronto (a volte pure matrimonio) gioioso, caratterizzato da forti cadenze del folclore slavo dolcificate con espressione lirica, pretesto questo per ritagliare, arrangiare, sviscerare … Jean-Christophe Cholet firma sei nuove composizioni e due arrangiamenti su melodie della celebra musica vocale bulgara. È parimenti l’occasione per ascoltare il fine “lavoro di cesello” di Arnaud Boukhitine, basso-tuba della formazione, che ci presenta una composizione complementare che si fonde sottilmente nell’insieme del progetto. Questa produzione riveste un carattere più festeggiante e si discosta dalle diverse produzioni che ci ha fatto finora ascoltare Jean-Christophe Cholet attraverso la casa discografica Altrisuoni. Una tappa del compositore da assolutamente non mancare, interpretata da musicisti francesi d’eccezione!
